1 A re-target prepares a manuscript you already paid Articlo to format for a different journal, while keeping the earlier version available.
2 Banked credits are unused re-target credits that roll over while you subscribe, up to your plan's limit. New-paper allowances do not roll over.
Frequently asked questions
Questions authors ask before uploading.
Does Articlo write or edit my research?
No. Articlo does not generate, rewrite, paraphrase, or substantively edit your content. It formats the manuscript and flags items that still need the author's judgment; your research, claims, and final submission decisions remain yours. Your work is never processed by an AI model.
Does Articlo run my paper through AI?
No. Articlo applies the journal's formatting rules directly to your document. Your paper is never sent to, read by, or processed by an AI model, and it is never used to train one.
How are manuscripts kept private?
Files are stored privately with encryption and are available from your authenticated account. When a service email needs to open one specific paper, Articlo may use a short-lived, revocable link limited to that paper; it cannot open the rest of your account. Paid manuscript files remain in your account until you delete them. Abandoned unpaid uploads are removed after 72 hours.
How long does manuscript preparation take?
Most compatible Word documents finish shortly after payment. Large or complex files can take longer or require an automated retry or support review. Your private paper page shows the current status, and Articlo emails you when the files are ready.
What files can I use?
Upload a .docx file up to 15 MB, or provide a Google Docs link set to “Anyone with the link can view.” Keep figures, images, and tables in the document where they belong, with their captions or legends. Articlo carries them into the prepared Word file and flags any journal requirement that calls for a separate source file.
What if my journal is not listed?
Choose Request a journal next to the journal selector and tell us which journal you need. We will check its current published requirements and email you when it is available in Articlo. Requirements are confirmed before they are presented as journal-specific guidance.
What does Articlo change?
Articlo formats layout, spacing, margins, fonts, headings, references and citation callouts, page or line numbering, figures, tables, and package files for the selected journal and article type. It only marks your package complete when the supported formatting has been applied and checked. If your file needs a decision from you—such as missing content or an unusual structure—you will see a clear action item instead of receiving a misleading “ready” file.
Will Articlo format my citations?
Yes. As part of journal preparation, Articlo converts the citations and reference information you supplied to the format required by the selected journal, including author–year, numbered, bracketed, parenthesized, and superscript formats. If a citation or reference is incomplete or cannot be matched safely, Articlo preserves it and identifies the exact item for you to review instead of guessing.
Does Articlo verify my references?
Articlo formats the bibliographic information and callouts you provide. It does not verify that a source exists, that its metadata or DOI is correct, or that it supports a claim. An incomplete or structurally ambiguous reference is preserved and clearly identified for your review while the rest of the manuscript is prepared.
Does a prepared manuscript guarantee acceptance?
No. Articlo helps prepare a manuscript for submission requirements, but editorial review, peer review, scientific quality, and acceptance decisions belong to the journal.
What happens if preparation fails?
Articlo can retry the preparation from your private paper page. If a paid single paper cannot be completed after retry, the payment is refunded and the incomplete private package is closed.
What is a re-target?
A re-target prepares an existing paid manuscript for a different journal while keeping the earlier journal version available. A Single customer pays $9 per re-target. Author and Lab members use eligible banked credits first, then pay $7 or $5 respectively while the subscription is active.
Do re-target credits roll over or expire?
Author members receive 3 re-target credits after each successful monthly payment and can bank up to 6. Lab members receive 5 and can bank up to 15. Same-manuscript re-target eligibility does not expire. After cancellation, earned credits remain usable for manuscripts prepared during that membership; once those credits are used, new paid re-targets cost the standard $9.
