Abstract length

  • The range of languages is limited by the AFLJ ’s Board capacity to access and read the material being reviewed.
  • Submissions which do not comply with the style guide will be returned to the author.
  • Do not begin or end quotations with an ellipsis (…).
  • Image descriptions are typically used by systems such as pronouncing screen readers to make images accessible to people that cannot read or see the object due to a visual disability.

Language and text style

  • Indent quotations longer than 30 words; these do not require quotation marks.
  • Review: The review piece itself should always be submitted in English and can optionally include an additional version in the language of the reviewed book.

  • Use gender-neutral or non-discriminatory language where appropriate.
  • Do not use full stops to denote abbreviations: eg, CJ, US, UK, CLR.
  • Use single quotation marks: eg, She wrote, ‘Blah, blah, blah’.
