Abstract length

  • Provide an author-written abstract of no more than 150 words.
  • Should contain an abstract of 150 words.

Keywords

  • Provide 5-8 keywords chosen by the author.
  • Should contain between 5 and 8 keywords.

Reference style

  • Articlo formats your supplied references in Harvard style and checks that citations match the reference list; source validity is not verified.
  • Should be between 6000 and 8000 words, inclusive of tables, references, figure captions, endnotes.

Figure and table rules

  • Keep every figure and table numbered, captioned, and cited in the manuscript.

  • Figures should be high quality (1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale and 300 dpi for colour, at the correct size).
  • In visual essays where the image dominates, with text reading more like captions, the text should be approximately 1000 words and the combined image and text should be designed to occupy no more than 20 printed pages.
  • To improve the print and online display, please ensure that all figures and graphics are supplied at the appropriate resolutions with a minimum 1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale and 300 dpi for colour, at a minimum size of four inches wide.

Competing interests

Title page and author information

  • All authors of a manuscript should include their full name and affiliation on the cover page of the manuscript.
  • One author will need to be identified as the corresponding author, with their email address normally displayed in the article PDF and the online article.

Article structure and word limits

  • Should be between 1000 and 1200 words unless they are comparative in which case they can be up to 1800 words.
  • The filename for a graphic should be descriptive of the graphic, e.g. Figure1, Figure2a.
