Abstract length
- Provide an author-written abstract of no more than 250 words.
- Research Article: An abstract of 200-250 words should precede original research articles and squibs (in the same file).

- Articles written in French, German, Finnish or Swedish must include a second abstract written in any of the other languages of publication.
- The second abstract should be included in the final submission; it is not required in the first submission.
Reference style
- Articlo formats your supplied references to the journal's stored style and checks that citations match the reference list; source validity is not verified.
- DOI-identifiers should be provided, if available, after the standard part of the reference.

- The "REFERENCE" part should follow the same format as the relevant part of similar sources in the list of references (except that the final period is placed after the closing parenthesis).
- DOIs should be formatted as URLs as in the following example: Cogill-Koez, Dorothea.
- The GSR recommendations are complemented by the following Finnish Journal of Linguistics house rules: References to books should include the name of the publisher, but the city in which it operates is optional.
- We also ask you to format your citations and references in such a way that they do not reveal the authors' identities.
Figure and table rules
- Keep every figure and table numbered, captioned, and cited in the manuscript.
- All tables will be redrawn during the production stage; they should therefore be presented in a format which allows the relevant information to be easily extracted (e.g. editable tables as part of the DOC(X) file; separate Excel sheets or CSV files).

- If publication-ready versions of figures or images are provided by the authors, they need to be of high enough resolution (300 dpi).
- It is also possible to redraw at least some types of figures.
- If any figures are redrawn, all the necessary information (e.g. numerical data for a bar chart) needs to be provided separately.
Ethics statement
- Include or confirm the ethics statement required by the journal. Articlo checks this item and flags anything that still needs author input.
Cover letter
- Letter: Provide the claims and editor-specific context for the cover letter; Articlo creates an editable companion without inventing content.
Article structure and word limits
- The length of the lectio is 1500-2000 words and should include the details of the defenc e (university, defenc e date and the title of the dissertation).
- When this happens, the gloss should appear in square brackets, e.g. Chuvash: numay kalaś-akan śïn [much talk-PRS.PTCP person] ‘the person that talks [too] much’ (Savelyev 2020: 462).

- Review: Authors who wish to contribute a book review for FJL should contact the editors beforehand, preferably before starting to write the review.
- The title of the lectio should differ from the title of the dissertation.
- Authors who wish to publish in Finnish Journal of Linguistics should follow the GSR by default, taking into account the complementary house rules listed below.
- Glosses are required when it is essential for readers to understand the grammatical structure of the examples.
- Whenever URLs are provided, they must be accompanied by an "accessed" date (or a "published" or "last updated" date).
- The format of the final submission should be either DOC(X) or RTF.
- This should be checked in advance before submitting the final files.
- Contact Information: All correspondence (including submitted papers) should be directed to the editors of the journal.
- Membership is not required for contributors.
- Although manuscripts from all fields of linguistics are most welcome, authors should take into consideration the general linguistic audience of the journal and ensure that papers also remain readable and comprehensible to non-specialists.
- Review: A book review should contextualise the volume, summarise its contents and provide an overall evaluation of its merits for the academic linguistic community and/or some other intended readership.
- Should the publication of the article violate third party rights, Finnish Journal of Linguistics has the right to abolish the article or ask that it be abolished immediately from any websites.
- Initially, manuscripts should be submitted electronically as attachments in one of the following formats: PDF (Adobe Acrobat), DOC(X) (MS Word) or RTF (rich text format).

Preprints and prior publication
- Include or confirm the preprints and prior publication required by the journal. Articlo checks this item and flags anything that still needs author input.
Artificial intelligence disclosure
- Add or confirm the author-written Artificial intelligence statement; Articlo flags it if author input is still needed.
- All papers should include a statement on the use of generative AI, whether they used it or not.

Manuscript structure
- Lectio s introduce the key points or central argument of the thesis in a way that should make the ensuing discussion between the examinee and the examiner apprehensible to the audience, many of whom may be unfamiliar with the candidate’s research or even linguistic research in general.
Language and text style
- Unless they are from English (or more generally, the language of the article), they must be glossed and translated." (GSR 2014: 6) is replaced by the Finnish Journal of Linguistics house rule: Any examples or items of linguistic analysis in a language other than the language of the article should be translated and, whenever relevant, also glossed.
- Contributions should be written in English, French, German, Finnish or Swedish.

- Multilingual examples The following house rule complements the GSR: Examples or items of linguistic analysis in more than one language in the main body of the text should be formatted as follows: 1. language is italicized; 2. language is underlined; 3. language is bold.
