Abstract length

Reference style

  • The new reference should refer back to the first citation of the work, giving the author(s)' surname(s) and the title of the work, with the new page number, eg: Stratton and Trinder, Industrial England, 77.
  • A single end note number should be used, even if the sentence requires more than one reference, with the references in the end notes separated by semicolons.
  • References should be numbered consecutively in the text.
  • If the article has a digital object identifier (DOI), this should be included after the page number or range.
  • If there are a number of references from the same repository, a separate list of abbreviations of repository names should precede the list of references.
  • Repeat citations of the same publication should each be given a new end note number in sequence.
  • It must never be used if the preceding note contains more than one citation.
  • A declaration must be included within the submission stating: Confirmation the authors take full responsibility for the integrity of the whole content, including accuracy of references.

Figure and table rules

  • Keep every figure and table numbered, captioned, and cited in the manuscript.
  • Dimensions and measurements should appear in figures, e.g. the canal was 9.5km in length.

Language and text style

  • Quotations more than 40 words should be indented one tab and left without quotation marks.
  • Abbreviations of units: do not use full points or pluralise with a terminal 's', eg: 5mm not 5mm. or 5mms.
