Abstract length

  • Provide an author-written abstract of no more than 200 words.
  • Each manuscript document should contain the following elements: title, abstract (unstructured, 200 words), 5-6 keywords, introduction, methods (with ethics statement included), results, discussion, references, table(s) and figure(s) with caption(s), (tables and figures each on separate pages), and appendices (as appropriate).

  • There are no strict formatting requirements, but all manuscripts must contain the essential elements needed to evaluate a manuscript: abstract, author affiliation, figures, tables, funder information, references.

Figure and table rules

  • Keep every figure and table numbered, captioned, and cited in the manuscript.
  • Figures should be high quality (1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale and 300 dpi for colour, at the correct size).

  • All manuscripts involving data from human participants must include relevant statements in the method section about whether formal ethics approval was received.
  • This should be anonymized in submitted manuscripts (e.g., Formal ethics approval for this study was granted by [deidentified] Human Research Ethics Committee).
  • In addition, an ethics statement or sentence should be present in the main Methods section, listing the name of any approving institution; that institutional information should be redacted in the blinded manuscript.
  • It is acknowledged that some institutions vary in what types of research are required to have formal ethics approval and others may not have a formal human research ethics/institutional research board available from which to obtain approval to conduct research.
  • Furthermore, manuscripts should provide some details about any relevant ethical protocols that were followed to ensure ethical principles were upheld (e.g., all participants provided written informed consent and were debriefed following their involvement; or, clients consented to their deidentified data being used for research purposes when they created an account/at intake, etc.).

Blinded manuscript

  • Remove author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, and other direct identifiers from the blinded manuscript file.
  • The PDF should be uploaded as the “Manuscript - with author details”/“Manuscript - anonymous” file.

  • Authors must provide full methodological details and adhere to relevant reporting guidelines where applicable (e.g. CONSORT-AI, STARD-AI, GAMER, TRIPOD-AI, etc).

Manuscript structure

  • Authors must retain full records of the methods undertaken, including full descriptions and records of the prompts used, which must be shared with the journal upon request.
