Abstract length

  • Provide an author-written abstract of no more than 200 words.
  • Research Article: Provide an author-written abstract of no more than 250 words.

Reference style

  • References in the text of the article should be cited with author’s/authors’ name(s) and year of publication (i.e. (Jones, 2000)), and with page numbers for specific quotations.

Figure and table rules

  • Keep every figure and table numbered, captioned, and cited in the manuscript. Keep figures embedded; Articlo also extracts numbered source files for the package.
  • Line artwork should be supplied in tif or eps format, resolution 1200 dpi at final size.

  • Tables and figures should be clearly laid out and designed to fit onto a page 234 mm by 155 mm.

  • Tables should be included in the manuscript.
  • Tables should not include: Rotated text.
  • Tables should not include: Images.
  • Units of measurement Symbols following a figure to denote a unit of measurement must be taken from the latest SI brochure.
  • Figures/images have a resolution of at least 150dpi (300dpi or above preferred).

Funding statement

  • Authors should note in an acknowledgement sources of funding for the paper and associated work, and any potential conflicts of interest they may have relevant to the content of the article.
  • Abstracts for these perspectives pieces should be of no more than 200 words and cover the following: Acknowledgements and Declarations – acknowledgements of funding and other contributions to the paper and declarations of, for example, potential conflicts of interest.

Ethics statement

  • Add or confirm the author-written Ethics statement; Articlo flags it if author input is still needed.
  • Otherwise, a statement that ethics approval was not required has been added to the file.

  • Submission Guidelines Submit Online To submit online, and to check the status of your submission, you need to have an account.
  • Papers should be anonymised (including all meta-data and identifying information in the properities of the document itself), ready for forwarding to referees.
  • Where papers have more than one author, the contact author should be clearly specified.
  • Where research is reported it should conform to good ethical practice.
  • Abstracts should disclose the substantive argument or finding of the article and not merely its subject and formal structure.
  • They should be arranged alphabetically under author(s) name(s) and then in chronological order if several papers by the same author(s) are cited.
  • The full title of the paper must be given together with the first and last page numbers.
  • Book titles should be followed by the place of publication and the publisher.
  • Totals and percentages should be labelled, and units identified.

  • Use lowercase for all articles, coordinate conjunctions and prepositions.
  • First word after a colon should be capitalised if it is a proper noun, starts a complete sentence or asks a question.
  • The standard, non-italicised font must be used for all quotes.
  • Common examples from Latin origin do not follow this rule and should be lowercase and can include full stops.
  • If they are present, they should denote emphasis, change of thought or interruption to the main sentence and can replace commas, parentheses, colons or semicolons.
  • If a sentence starts with a number it must be spelt, or the sentence should be re-written so that it no longer starts with the number.
  • Formula Formulae must be proofed carefully by the author.
  • If specific pages are being cited then the page number should follow the year, after a colon.
  • Note: some institutions require authors to seek written approval in relation to the terms of publication.
  • Should this be required, authors can request a separate licence agreement document from the editorial team (e.g. authors who are Crown employees).

  • All tables must be cited within the main text, numbered with Arabic numerals in consecutive order (e.g. Table 1, Table 2, etc.).

Authorship and originality
