Abstract length

  • Provide an author-written abstract of no more than 100 words.
  • Notes Notes reporting a single important matter, result or conclusion: 500-1000 words, no abstract or key words, and maximum of 5 references.

  • Research Reports Research reports on particular projects, results or issues in research: 1500-3000 words, an abstract of 50-100 words, 2-3 key words, and maximum of 20 references.
  • The first page should show: author name(s) and address(es) plus email address(es), noting author for correspondence, paper title and category (see above), and abstract and keywords.

Keywords

  • Provide 2-3 keywords chosen by the author.
  • You must also complete the metadata on the submission portal (e.g., affiliation, address, keywords, references) for each author as these data are used to automatically populate the website.

Reference style

  • Articlo formats your supplied references to the journal's stored style and checks that citations match the reference list; source validity is not verified.

  • Wherever possible please include a digital object identifier (DOI), however for some older works this may not be possible.
  • Calibration programme used should be given as references.

Figure and table rules

  • Keep every figure and table numbered, captioned, and cited in the manuscript.
  • All other raster or pixel images (i.e. digital photographs, scanned artwork etc.) should be at least 200dpi if greyscale, and 300dpi if colour, at reproduction size.

  • The article should use the post-text headings (i.e. Data Availability statement, Partnerships, Funding, Conflicts of Interest, Author Contributions) and sections outlined and described in the JPA template.

Data availability statement

  • Include or confirm the data availability statement required by the journal. Articlo checks this item and flags anything that still needs author input.

Ethics statement

  • Add or confirm the author-written Ethics statement; Articlo flags it if author input is still needed.
  • The JPA will revise these ethics standards as required.

Author contributions

Preprints and prior publication

Other submission requirements

  • Text should be 1.5 spaced, Times New Roman 12pt or equivalent.
  • Manuscripts should be submitted using this website (file size limit of 7mb applies).

  • Black and white line-art (1 bit) should be at least 600dpi at reproduction size.
  • To continue to provide JPA as a Diamond Open-Access journal authors are required to format their paper according to this template.
  • Authors are encouraged to use the template for their initial submission, but are not required to do so until the acceptance of the paper.
  • They may also need to be provided separately upon acceptance should the editors ask.

  • Submission Preparation Checklist As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Manuscripts are peer-reviewed by at least two referees.
  • A memorandum of agreement to publish, made between the contributor and the publisher, will also need to be completed.

Language and text style

  • All contributions should be submitted in English, with parallel publishing within the article allowed in another language.

Manuscript structure

  • Upon acceptance of a manuscript the authors must format the article according to the JPA template, failure to do this will result in a rejection of the submission.
