  • Multi‑part figures must use capital letter suffixes (e.g. A, B, C).vIf more than 26 parts are required, use A′, B′, C′, etc.

  • Word or Excel files are acceptable, but please do not provide tables in a non-editable format e.g. as a pdf file.
  • Figures should be submitted as individual files, separate to the text.
  • Figures should preferably be uploaded as TIF/TIFF files, although other file formats may be acceptable depending on the figure requirements.
  • Large tables or tables of supportive material should be included as Supplemental materials.
  • Supplemental files, including Supplemental Tables, should preferably be provided as Word files.
  • You must ensure appropriate acknowledgement is given to the permission granted to you for reuse by the copyright holder in each figure or table caption.
  • If figure file sizes are limited during the manuscript upload process, then figures may be uploaded as PDF files.
  • Review: Once you receive your typeset proof for review, all figures and table sizes have been finalised and cannot be adjusted.

Language and text style

Article type and manuscript length

  • The main text document should be submitted in a standard editable format, preferably Word.
  • Manuscripts should be compiled in the following order: Title page; Abstract; Keywords; Main text (Introduction; Materials and methods; Discussion; Conclusions); Acknowledgements and Disclosures; Supplemental materials (if present); References; Figure caption(s) (provided as a list).

Study reporting guidelines

  • Authors must provide full methodological details and adhere to relevant reporting guidelines where applicable (e.g. CONSORT-AI, STARD-AI, GAMER, TRIPOD-AI, etc).

Manuscript structure

  • Authors must retain full records of the methods undertaken, including full descriptions and records of the prompts used, which must be shared with the journal upon request.
