- Original Article: For Reviews and Original Articles (including Meta-analyses), the Abstract must be structured as follows: Background: provide a specific rationale for the study in light of existing literature.
- Conclusion: state clinical significance of the findings and, when applicable, translational possibilities, expanding above and beyond the results of the study. “Future research” should not be addressed in the Abstract Conclusion.
- Clinical Trial: For clinical trials, the clinical trials registry number should be noted in the abstract [e.g., Clinicaltrials.gov, Universal Trial Number (UTN), or EU Clinical Trial Register (EudraCT)].
- Second language abstract: If you would like a second abstract in a non-English language, this second abstract should follow your initial abstract in the primary manuscript.
- The instructions for authors for each journal will give specific guidelines on what’s required here, including whether it should be a structured abstract or graphical abstract, and any word limits.
- Review: If we do not have the capability to vet your translation, the abstract will be followed with a disclaimer (“This abstract was not included in the peer review process.”).
Keywords
- Include or confirm the keywords required by the journal. Articlo checks this item and flags anything that still needs author input.
Reference style
- Articlo formats your supplied references to the journal's stored style and checks that citations match the reference list; source validity is not verified.

- Please include figure caption in primary text in page following references.
Figure and table rules
- Keep every figure and table numbered, captioned, and cited in the manuscript. Keep figures embedded; Articlo also extracts numbered source files for the package.

- If there are no relevant financial or non-financial conflicts to disclose, authors should state “The authors report no relevant financial or non-financial conflicts of interest.” If no funding was received in support of the manuscript, authors should state “No funding was received for support of this manuscript.” Incomplete or erroneous disclosures may result in withdrawal of an accepted or published manuscript.
