Readiness requirements

Review the key details below, or download the complete checklist with every stored source-backed requirement.

Abstract length

  • Provide an author-written abstract of no more than 225 words.
  • Use a structured abstract.
Show 4 more
  • Should contain a structured abstract of 225 words.
  • A single-experiment manuscript should be no longer than 5000 words excluding abstract, tables, and references.
  • There are no strict formatting requirements, but all manuscripts must contain the essential elements needed to evaluate a manuscript: abstract, author affiliation, figures, tables, funder information, references.
  • You should divide your structured abstract into the following sections: Objective (What was the research question?) Background (How does this study extend previous research?) Method (How was the work executed?) Results (What were the findings?) Conclusion (How do the results answer the research question?) Each section of the abstract should feature an appropriate heading.

Keywords

  • Provide 3-5 keywords chosen by the author.
  • Should contain between 3 and 5 keywords.

Reference style

  • Articlo formats your supplied references to the journal's stored style and checks that citations match the reference list; source validity is not verified.
  • For manuscripts submitted in LaTeX format a.bib reference file must be included.
Show 4 more
  • All bibliographic entries must contain a corresponding in-text citation.
  • Where applicable, this should include the hyperlink, DOI or other persistent identifier associated with the data set(s).
  • Readers should be able to interpret the table without reference to the text.
  • If you reply yes, you will be required to provide the DOI, pre-registered DOI, hyperlink, or other persistent identifier associated with the data set(s).

Figure and table rules

  • Keep every figure and table numbered, captioned, and cited in the manuscript. Keep figures embedded; Articlo also extracts numbered source files for the package.
  • Figures should be high quality (1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale and 300 dpi for color, at the correct size).
Show 6 more
  • These should generally be in the vicinity of 2000 to 2500 words and have no more than three graphics (inclusive of figures and tables), unless the inclusion of a graphic can replace text and can stand independently of supporting text.
  • Figures should be of sufficient resolution to enable refereeing.
  • Tables should present new information rather than duplicating what is in the text.
  • Figures should be saved separately from the text. [Page formatting instructions] The main document should be double-spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides, and all pages should be numbered consecutively.
  • Submit two sets of files: MSWord file, complete document, with all of the tables and figures inserted in their proper places, and a separate file or files of figures, depending upon storage required by each graphic, containing high resolution versions of all figures.
  • Figures should be supplied in one of our preferred file formats: EPS, PDF, PS, JPEG, TIFF, or Microsoft Word (DOC or DOCX) files are acceptable for figures that have been drawn in Word.
